What is a free bet?

Free bets are pretty straightforward. In a nutshell, the bookmaker gives you free bet credits that you can use to place one or more bets, free of charge. The bookmaker will sometimes give you these free bet credits just because you opened an account with it. These are called no deposit sign-up offers. Other times, the bookmaker will reward you with free bets when you make your first deposit. These are welcome bonus free bets. But these two free bet types are only the tip of the free bet iceberg. There are lots of other types of free wager promos, and, fortunately for you, here we will look at each one of them.

How do free bets work?

You don’t have to be a betting pro to understand how free bets work. All you need to know is the type of free bet you are opting for and the terms and conditions it comes with.

Let’s say you are thinking about triggering a new customer free bet offer. The sportsbook says that it will give you a £10 free bet if you open an account and make a qualifying first bet. So, you go ahead and do that. Once you place your qualifying wager, the bookmaker will credit the free bet to your betting account. That’s it. Now you can use the free bet credits the bookmaker added to your betting account to place your free bet.

Placing a Qualifying Bet to Trigger a Free Bet Promo

To get your free bet credits, you have to place a qualifying bet first. However, placing a qualifying bet is not the same as making a regular bet. In other words, you have to make sure that your wager is in line with the terms and conditions stipulated in the free bet offer if you want to get your free bet credits.

Most of the time, you have to meet several bonus terms to have a qualifying bet. These include meeting minimum odds requirements, fulfilling playthrough conditions, and including the right number of selections in your bet slip.

For example, a bookmaker can say that to have a qualifying bet, i.e. to get the free bet, you have to meet the following conditions:

  • 3+ selections in your bet slip
  • Minimum odds of 1.50 (1/2) per selection

If your bet ticks all of these boxes, you will get your free bet credits. You can now use your free bet stake to place your free wager. However, you often need to meet one last condition before you can withdraw your free bet winnings – the wagering requirement of the free bet bonus.

Wagering requirements tell you how many times you have to play through your free bet credits before you can withdraw the winnings you made from them.

Let’s say the free bet offer above has a 2x wagering requirement. That means that you will have to play your free bet stake two times over before you can withdraw your winnings. For instance, if it is a £10 free bet, you will have to bet £20 before you can cash out your free bet winnings.

Betting Sites that Have the Best Free Bet Offers

To get the most enticing free bets, you have to play at betting sites with the best free bet offers. As with all betting bonuses, the quality of free bet promos varies from one bookmaker to another. So if you want to get lucrative free bets and get them on reasonable terms, you should join the best betting providers.

Top-quality betting sites boast a wide variety of free bet types. They have something for everyone, and both new players and existing customers can find free bets that strike their fancy. Moreover, the best sportsbooks make free bets easy to trigger and activate, meaning you won’t have to spend ages before getting your free bet credits.

How to find the best free bets?

Several tips can help you identify a top-quality free bet offer. First, you have to look at the obvious – the value of the free bet. As a rule of thumb, a £20 free wager is better than a £10 free bet, and £100 in bet credits sounds much more enticing than £50 in free bets.

However, while a larger free bet is always worth exploring, it doesn’t necessarily mean better. Often, bookmakers aggressively promote an attractive-looking free bet promo but load it with terms and conditions that are difficult to meet. Their reasoning is that nobody reads the small print of a free bet promo. Therefore, they think they can promise punters the world and make that enticing-looking free bet offer virtually unobtainable.

And you want to avoid falling into that trap. That means that when looking for the best free bets, you have to look at more than just the value of the wager. You also have to consider bonus requirements such as:

  1. Are the minimum odds low enough?
  2. Does the number of selections work for you?
  3. Are the wagering requirements reasonable?
  4. Are you ok with the free bet validity period?
  5. Is the bet stake included in the returns?
  6. Are there payment method restrictions?

Choose a free bet offer only if its bonus terms are reasonable. It is often better to go with a £10 free bet with no wagering requirements than to opt-in for £30 in free bets loaded with playthrough conditions.

Quick Free Bet Facts

If you are thinking about triggering a free bet promo, we suggest looking at our quick free bet facts first. These will help you get the big picture and make a more educated free bet choice. Here are some free bet facts to help you in your betting adventure:

  • Most bookmakers have free bets
  • No deposit free bets are more difficult to find than regular free wagers
  • Both new players and existing customers can benefit from free bets
  • They are part of sign-up offers and welcome bonus packages
  • Loyalty programs reward existing players with free bet offers too
  • Unfortunately, you often have to meet bonus conditions to get your free bets

As you can see, the good news about free bets is that most bookmakers have them. Top-quality sportsbooks have free bet promos for new customers and existing users and include them in sign-up offers and loyalty schemes. And that’s great.

However, if you want to get free bets without making a deposit, you will find it a little harder to do that. We are not saying that there aren’t any no deposit free bet bonuses out there, as there are. Unfortunately, they are very difficult to find, as bookmakers are not too happy to let players beat them with their own money. Even if you do manage to locate these free bets with no deposit bonuses, they will likely come loaded with terms and conditions that are difficult to meet.

Advantages and Disadvantages of Free Bet Offers

Free bets are among the most enticing wagering offers and come with lots of perks. After all, who can say no to a free bet? So, to write about the advantages and disadvantages of free bets can seem pointless, as the benefits far outweigh the drawbacks. However, there are a couple of disadvantages related to free bets you should know. Let’s look at the pros and cons of free wagers and see if these offers will be up your alley:

  • You play without risking your own money
  • Withdraw your free bet winnings as real cash
  • Can take more risks with your bets as you got nothing to lose
  • Free bets are fairly common in the sports betting industry
  • Free bet offers often come with lots of conditions- requirements related to odds, selections, wagering
  • Some free bet types, like no deposit free bets, are difficult to find

Playing with free bets allows you to minimize the risk of losing, as you are not spending your hard-earned. It also lets you make riskier wagers and potentially win more money. And that’s before you even consider that you can cash out bookmakers’ bet credits as real money (once you complete the wagering requirements, of course). Therefore, it’s easy to see why punters are always on the lookout for a free bet promo or two.

Types of Free Bets

The great thing about free wager offers is that there are different types of free bets that punters can get. Unlike welcome bonus offers, which you can only use at the start of your betting adventure, you can get free bets at different points in time.

Bookmakers have free bets for their new players, but they create free wager promos for their existing customers too. That means that you can get free bets as sign-up offers, but you can also get them when you complete a loyalty program milestone, reload your account, and when you opt-in for one of the many free bet betting specials. Let’s look at the different kinds of free bets you can use.

Free Bets for New Customers

New customers always get the best promotions. Bookmakers want to leave a really good impression on their new and potential players, so they go out of their way to wow them. This intention to impress is particularly evident in the new customer free bet offers bookmakers boast.

The free bets for new customers can come in all shapes and sizes. They can be sign-up offers and welcome bonuses where punters get their free wagers after registering and depositing.

They can also come in the form of risk-free wagers where players can place a riskier first bet, and if it loses, the bookmaker gives them their bet stake back.

Lastly, there are also free bet sign-up offers that punters get without even making a deposit. These free bet no deposit promos are the El Dorado of free bets as they let bettors wager with bookmakers’ money without spending any of their own.

Let’s look at all of these new customer free bet offers in more detail and see which one is ideal for you.

Sign-Up Free Bet Offers

You get sign-up free bet offers when you open a betting account with a bookmaker. Most of the time, you also have to deposit to get the free bets credited to your account, but that isn’t always the case. Let’s look at a couple of sign-up free bet promos we found online to show you how they work:

  • Sign Up Offer: Register and Get £50 in Free Bets (Min deposit £10, New customers only, Min odds 1/2 per selection, 3+ selections, Free bets valid for 7 days, Free bet wagering occurs, Free bet stakes not included in returns, Full T&Cs apply).
  • Free Bet Welcome Bonus Offer: Bet £10 and Get £30 in Free Bets (Full T&Cs apply, New customers only, Min deposit £10, 1.5 Min odds (1/2), Free bets credited upon qualifying bet settlement, Returns exclude Bet Credits stake, Free bets valid for 7 days, 2x Wagering, Wagering occurs from real balance first).

As you can see, with the first sign-up offer, you can get £50 in free bets if you register and deposit a minimum of £10. In other words, as soon as you open a new betting account and make your first deposit, you will get up to £50 in free bets.

The second sign-up offer is similarly enticing. It allows you to bet with £30 after you make a qualifying £10 first bet. Pretty neat, right?

15 £ free bet of Mr Play.

However, please bear in mind that both of these welcome bonuses come with conditions and requirements you have to meet to withdraw your free bet winnings. The small print in a free bet promo might look tedious, but reading it is the difference between triggering a lucrative free bet offer and a deceptive one.

No Deposit Free Bets

Everybody loves no deposit free bets, and it’s easy to see why. With free bet no deposit offers, you don’t spend any of your own money. Instead, you play entirely with bookmakers’ funds.

So, while you usually have to deposit to get a welcome bonus free bet, you don’t do that with no deposit free wagers. To get a no deposit free bet promo, you only need to register a new account with a bookmaker and opt-in for the offer. That’s it. You don’t have to meet minimum deposit thresholds or deal with payment method exclusions.

Sounds too good to be true? Well, it does, and it doesn’t. The good news about no deposit free bets is that all of the above is true. However, the bad news is that no deposit free wagers are pretty hard to find.

Moreover, when you find them, they tend to come with lots of conditions you have to meet to withdraw your winnings. And even when you meet those requirements, you might get the unpleasant surprise that your winnings are capped, and you cannot withdraw more than a predetermined amount.

An Example of a Free Bet No Deposit Offer

Let’s look at an example of a free bet no deposit offer to illustrate these perks and drawbacks more clearly:

  • No Deposit Free Bet: Sign Up Now and Get £10 in Free Bets (New customers only, Min odds 1/2, No deposit needed, 10X wagering the winnings, Free bets valid for 7 days, Bet max winnings is 20x Free Bet stake, Full T&Cs apply).

As you can see, when you register an account with this bookmaker, you get a £10 free bet. More importantly, you don’t need to deposit to get the £10 free bet.

And that’s great. However, you have to do a couple of things to withdraw your winnings from your £10 free bet. They make this offer not as enticing as it originally seemed.

First, you have to meet the 10x wagering requirement. That means you will have to spend £100 (10x£10) before you can withdraw any winnings from your free bet.

Once you meet that wagering requirement, you will be able to cash out your free bet winnings, but you cannot withdraw more than £200 as that’s the maximum amount you can withdraw according to the bonus T&Cs. Not ideal, right?

Always read the terms and conditions of free bet offers. That goes double when it comes to no deposit free bets. These promos tend to be riddled with stipulations and requirements. So, if you want to get the most from a free bet no deposit offer, get your reading glasses out and start reading the fine print.

Risk-Free Bets

Risk-free bets are an excellent alternative to the more traditional free bet offer, especially when bookmakers give them their new customers. With a risk-free bet welcome offer, you can get your money back when your first bet loses. Let’s look at an example to explain this:

  • £100 Risk-Free First Bet: Get Up to £100 in Bet Credits if Your First Bet Loses (Min deposit £10, Payment method exclusions apply, 3+ legs, Min odds 1/2 per leg, Free Bet Credits valid for 7 days, Full T&Cs apply, New customer only).

As you can see, with this risk-free bet promo, you can place a £10, £50, or £100 bet on your first try. If that first bet is a losing one, you will get the bet stake back in the form of free bet credits.

For instance, let’s say you staked £30. Unfortunately, one of your selections let you down, and your first bet turned out to be a losing one.

Luckily for you, you triggered the risk-free bet promo before you placed your first bet, so now you will get your money back. The bookmaker will give you £30 in free bets, and you will be able to use them to place free wagers. In other words, you can ignore that losing the first bet, forget it ever happened, and use the money the bookmaker gave you to enjoy your next wagers. That’s something punters don’t say no to, and neither will you.

Free Bets for Existing Customers

You get free bets when you join a bookmaker for the first time, but you also get them when you are an existing customer. Betting providers value loyalty and reward players that have stayed with them beyond those enticing sign-up offers. They create tons of lucrative free bets for existing customers, and we recommend you find and try each of them. Here are the most popular free bet offers you can get when you become an existing customer.

Reload Deposit Free Bets

If you love the festive season, you will enjoy it even more when you join a sports betting site. Online bookmakers have top-tier promotions during holidays such as Christmas, Easter, and special days like Halloween, Black Friday, Boxing Day, etc. That’s especially true when it comes to free bets.

Many bookmakers will give you enticing free bet offers when you reload your betting account during these special days. Let’s look at two such offers to see how they work:

  • Christmas Free Bet Reload Offer: Reload Your Account on Christmas Day and Get £30 in Free Bets (Existing customers only, Min deposit £10, Free bet wagering occurs, Free bets valid for 7 days, Min odds/bet and payment method exclusions apply, Full T&Cs apply).
  • Black Friday Free Bet Giveaway: Deposit £10 During Black Friday and Get a £10 Free Bet (Existing customers only, Min deposit £10, 1.5 Min odds (1/2), £10 Free Bet valid for 7 days, Full T&Cs apply).

Both of these reload free bet offers to reward you with free wagers if you deposit money into your account during the designated promotional periods.

As with other free bet promos, you have to meet a few conditions to make the most of the free bets, including things like minimum deposit and odds. However, that’s a small price to pay to get a very enticing reload free bet.

Free Bets/Betting Specials

Existing customers who keep their eyes peeled for promotions can get some super-rewarding free bets/betting specials. Bookmakers are very generous during popular sports events and offer perks like enhanced odds, money-back promos, and of course, free bets.

There are some enticing free bets/betting specials out there if you are on the lookout for them. For instance, if you are a horse racing betting enthusiast, make sure to follow the Royal Ascot, the Cheltenham Festival or the Grand National super-closely. There will be tons of free bets/betting specials to be had, and you can profit from your horse racing wagering adventure that way.

Similarly, if football betting is your forte, make sure to follow popular leagues and tournaments such as the Champions League, English Premier League, World Cup, Copa America, etc. They will abound with free bet specials that you can benefit from if you keep your eyes wide open. Here’s one such example from the European Championship and the England v Germany game:

  • Bet £10 on England v Germany and Get a £10 Free Bet (Returns exclude Bet Credits stake, Free bet credited after qualifying bet settlement, Market exclusions apply, Full T&Cs apply).

As you can see, if you place a qualifying £10 bet on the England v Germany game, you will get a £10 free bet courtesy of the bookmaker. A £10 free bet might not sound like much, but it is more than nothing. If you don’t keep tabs on free bets/betting specials, you will miss out on some free money to play with, and that’s never good.

Loyalty Program Free Bets

The best bookmakers have loyalty programs to reward you if you place bets regularly. One of the most frequently used perks to incentivize players to go up their loyalty ladders is free bets.

In a nutshell, players who deposit and bet more go up the loyalty levels and get more free bets as a result. Let’s illustrate this concept through a five-tier bookmaker loyalty scheme:

  • Level 1 Players Get £10 in Free Bets
  • Level 2 Players Get £20 in Free Bets
  • Level 3 Players Get £30 in Free Bets
  • Level 4 Players Get £40 in Free Bets
  • Level 5 Players Get £50 in Free Bets

As you can see, players at the lowest step of the loyalty scheme get £10 in free bets at the end of the month. That’s not bad but is less than what higher-ranked customers get. Loyalty is something that bookmakers value, and if you like to get your fair share of free bets, we suggest you go up that latter as fast as possible.

How to get free bet offers?

Getting your hands on enticing free bets is easy. All you have to do is trigger the promo and then try to complete the free bet requirements. However, while this probably seems pretty straightforward for sports betting veterans, it most likely is confusing to new players. Fortunately, we are here to help. Our five-step guide will tell you everything you need to know. It will guide you through the entire process, from getting the free bet token to withdrawing the winnings from it. Read on to find out how to get free bet offers like a pro.

1️⃣ Shortlist enticing free bet offers

First, make a shortlist of the best free bet offers out there. As we said in our section about finding the best free wagers, a top-quality free bet promo will come with reasonable wagering requirements and player-friendly odds and selection conditions. For instance, if a free bet promo has 2x wagering, 1.5 min odds (1/2), and asks you to include 2+ legs in your bet slip, it has lenient and acceptable terms and conditions. In contrast, if an offer comes with 10x wagering, 3.0 min odds (2/1), and 4+ selections, getting your free bet winnings will be much harder. Always choose free bets that are easy to trigger.

2️⃣ Join the bookmakers that offer them

Now that you have found lucrative offers that are easy to activate, it is time to join the betting sites that offer them. You can do this in two ways. You can either go to the betting site and register from there, or you can click on the free bet promo you found. That will automatically redirect you to the sign-up process. During registration, you only need to enter your name, address, email, and phone number. As soon as you do that, the bookmaker will send a verification link to your email address. Click on that link to activate your account.

3️⃣ Opt-in for the promos

You now have a betting account where the bookmaker can credit your free bets. That means you are all ready to trigger your first free wager promo. To do this, click on the Activate/Claim button of the free bet offer and enter a promo code if there is one. As soon as you do that, the bookmaker will notify you that you have received £10, £20, £50 or £100 in bet credits. Here, it is crucial to check how long you have to use the free wager promo. If the offer says “Free bets valid for 7 days”, you have a week to place your bet. After seven days, the free bet credits will disappear from your account. As you might imagine, time is of the essence if you want to make the most bookmaker offers.

4️⃣ Meet the bonus terms and conditions

With the free wager credits in your account, you can now place your bet. When you do this, make sure to meet the terms and conditions we talked about above. If you don’t, your bet won’t be a qualifying one, and it won’t count towards meeting the wagering requirements.

5️⃣ Withdraw your free bet winnings

If everything has gone to plan and if you have met all the bonus conditions, you should be able to withdraw your winnings. You will know that this is the case because you will see your free bet winnings in your withdrawable winnings tally. Before that, they were probably in the free bet wagering section, and you weren’t able to withdraw them. To cash out your free bet winnings, go to the Withdrawals section in your account and ask for a withdrawal. That’s it.

Other Ways to Get Free Bets

The traditional way of getting free bets is to opt-in for them and meet the terms and conditions stipulated in the free wager offer. However, there are also other ways to get free bets. You can get a complimentary wager on the bookmaker’s tab when you subscribe to its newsletter or refer a friend to join. Read on to learn about some ingenious things you can do that can land you a free bet or two.

Refer a Friend

Bookmakers are no different from other businesses. They like to have more clients and try to spread the word in many different ways. One of those ways is by allowing existing customers to refer a friend to join. And this is great if you are the one doing the referring as you might get a free bet for your troubles.

Bookmakers often give you some bonus money in the form of a free bet stake or some other type of promo when you invite a friend to join. Usually, all you need to do is copy an invitation link that the bookmaker provides or invite your friend via the Refer a Friend section of the sportsbook’s website or app. As soon as you do that, and your friend accepts the invitation, you will get your bonus money or free bet.

Even better, most bookmakers often give the same type of reward to the person that joins them and not just the person who does the referring. Therefore, both your mate and you can benefit from taking part in the Refer a Friend program and get a free bet each.

Install Mobile Betting App

Almost all bookmakers have a mobile app these days. In fact, once you join a sportsbook, chances are you will place most of your bets via its app. So, considering that you will use the app anyway, why not get a free wager before you install it.

There are many bookmakers out there that reward their customers with free bets if they install their apps. However, there often is a specific way to do this to ensure that you do indeed get those free bets.

Our advice is to go to the bookmaker’s Promotions section and see if it offer a free bet token for installing its app. If it does, it’s easy, simply follow the instructions explained there, and you should get your complimentary wager in no time.

However, if you cannot see any such betting offer in the Promotions section, we advise you to call customer support. Most bookmakers have very responsive help-desk staff, and you should have no problem finding out whether you get a free bet token for installing their apps or not.

Subscribe to Bookmaker’s Newsletter

Bookmakers’ newsletters are not the most titillating reading, but they often contain invaluable information regarding promos. These newsletters may include info about enhanced odds for specific horse racing events, new free bets/offers that you shouldn’t miss, stats and analysis, tips and predictions, etc. That’s why it is always a smart move to subscribe to these newsletters, even though they might not seem like the most exciting reading.

Another reason why you should opt-in for bookmakers’ newsletters is the promise of free bets. Some sportsbooks give you complimentary wagers if you subscribe to their newsletters. Of course, don’t expect to get £30 in free bets, as most of these promos reward players with a £5 free bet token. In fact, if you manage to find one that offers £10 or £20 in free bets, you are golden.

To make a long story short, always be on the lookout for unorthodox ways to get free bets. And bookmakers’ newsletters may present free bet opportunities where you least expect to find them.

So, the next time you go to delete a promotional email inviting you to subscribe, think twice before you do that. You might lose a valuable £5 free bet if you do so.

Follow Live Events Closely

Another way to get your hands on some complimentary bets is to follow live events closely. Often, bookmakers come out with enhanced odds or free bet promos during live matches. If you don’t follow these games, you will miss out on an enticing free bet offer or better live odds. And that’s not something professional punters do.

Our advice is to keep tabs on popular events, as they are the ones that usually come with the most free bets/offers you can profit from. You can usually see these promos on your screen or on the pitchside advertising boards where bookmakers display their latest promotions. Once you catch a glimpse of an offer, don’t hesitate to go to the bookmaker that has it. You will get your free bet token within seconds, and following that same game will suddenly become much more interesting.

Birthday Free Bets

Bookmakers do everything for their existing clients to be happy, and often it is the small gestures that mean the most to players. One such gesture of gratitude is the birthday free bet.

Reputable bookmakers will always credit a free bet token to your account for your birthday. This will often be a £10 or £5 free bet, and needless to say, it won’t break the bank.

However, as the saying goes, you don’t look a gift horse in the mouth, and you should be happy that the bookmaker thought of you and expressed its sign of gratitude instead of complaining about the size of the wager.

Another thing that makes these birthday free bets decent gifts is that they don’t come loaded with bonus requirements. Most of the time, you won’t have to meet any playthrough conditions, minimum odds, and selection requirements for a birthday free bet. After all, the point of a birthday gift is to unwrap it on the same day, not to play with it for ages so that you meet wagering requirements. That would be a pretty lame birthday present.

However, make sure to use your birthday free bet token as soon as possible. Most of these offers are valid for 7 days or a month at most. Therefore, if you wait too long or don’t check your betting account in time, you might lose that complimentary wager. And that would be a waste of some good free bet stake we are sure you will agree.

Free Bets – Can you withdraw them right away?

Unfortunately, you cannot withdraw your free bet credits not until you meet the terms and conditions of the free wager bonus. For example, if a betting site credits £20 in free bets to your betting account, you cannot cash out that £20 right away. However, after you place a bet/some bets with it, and after you meet the bonus terms and conditions, you can withdraw any winnings that you get from that “£20 in free bets” promo.

Let’s say the betting site told you that you have to meet a 3x wagering requirement before you can withdraw your winnings. That means you will have to spend £60 if you want to cash out your winnings. Moreover, all of your bets will have to comply with the bonus’ minimum odds and selections stipulations. For instance, if the minimum odds requirement is 1.50 (1/2), all of your bets will have to satisfy this requirement. If they don’t, they won’t count towards meeting the bonus terms, and you will have to place qualifying bets to unlock your winnings.

Free Bets or Risk-Free Bets – The Difference

Free bet promos fall into two broad categories: free wagers and risk-free bets. Free wagers can be further divided into deposit and no deposit promos, whereas risk-free bets are more uniform and pretty similar to each other. But what is the difference between the two? We are here to explain.

Free Bets

Let’s start with free bets. With these promos, bookmakers give you free bet credits. You can use these credits to place bets free of charge. Whatever you win from these bets, you can withdraw real money.

For instance, the bookmaker gives you £20 in free bets. You can use these free bet credits to place a bet. If your bet wins, you can withdraw your winnings as real money.

Risk-Free Bets

Risk-free bets, on the other hand, work differently. When you trigger a risk-free bet, you place a bet with your money, not with what the bookmaker gives you. However, if your bet loses, the bookmaker will give you your money back.

Most of the time, betting sites give you your money back in the form of free bet stakes. That means that you cannot withdraw the money you got back, but you can place bets using them.

Let’s say a betting site has a £100 risk-free bet promo. First, you opt-in for the offer. Then you use your own money to place a £100 bet (or lower). If your bet wins, that’s great. You keep your winnings and continue your betting adventure.

However, if your £100 risk-free wager loses, the promo is activated. That means the bookmaker will give you £100 in bet credits, effectively nullifying your losses. You can now use those free bet stakes to place new wagers, hoping they yield better results than that first bet.

To sum up, you use bookmakers’ money to place free bets. In contrast, you use your own money to place risk-free bets, but if your wagers lose, betting sites give you your money back, usually in the form of free bet stakes. That was easy, right?

Deposit Free Bets – No Deposit Free Bets

As we mentioned, there are two types of free bets – ones that you can activate by making a deposit and free wager promos that don’t ask you for a deposit. Both come with their unique perks, as well as with a couple of drawbacks you should know. Let’s put deposit free bets and no deposit free wagers side by side and see which promo is the right one for you.

Deposit Free Bets:

  • Easier to find than no deposit free bets
  • Usually more lucrative
  • Activating deposit free bets is straightforward as their terms and conditions are more lenient
  • You have to deposit to trigger the promo

No Deposit Free Bets:

  • You don’t have to deposit to activate these free wagers
  • Difficult to find as most betting sites don’t offer them
  • Tend to be less enticing than deposit free bets
  • They come with caps on winnings and unreasonable wagering requirements, so making the most of them can be tricky

In a nutshell, you are far more likely to come across deposit free bets than no deposit ones. That’s not necessarily a bad thing, though. Deposit free bets tend to be more lucrative and come with easier terms to meet. That means you will have to deposit some money to get them (most promos come with a £10 min deposit). However, once you trigger these betting offers, they will pay dividends. They will have easily obtainable free bet credits, and winnings will be equally easy to withdraw.

Free Bet Tips and Tricks

You don’t have to be a betting pro to make the most of your free bets. Even a wagering beginner can make quite a lot of money if he knows how to use these betting offers. In fact, the difference between wasting your free bets and making lots of money from them is often in the finest of margins.

And that’s where we come in. We bridge the gap between betting veterans and wagering novices and make sure that beginner punters make the most of each free bet. Let’s look at a few super-useful free bet tips that our team of betting experts prepared for you and see how you can take your free bet game to the next level.

Understand Free Bet Terms & Conditions

Punters who don’t want to read free bet terms and conditions risk rendering their free wagers null and void even before they have activated them. There are several reasons why understanding free bet terms and conditions is crucial.

First, free bets last for only a short period. If you don’t place your bet within the predetermined time frame, you lose your free bet credits.

Secondly, free bet betting offers almost always come with minimum odds requirements. For instance, a bookmaker might say that you have to place your bet at 1.5 min odds (1/2). If you place a bet with odds of 1.33 (1/3), your bet won’t be a qualifying one.

You should also read the terms and conditions to determine which payment methods trigger the free bet promo. Not all banking methods activate betting offers like free bets. For instance, if you are depositing using an e-wallet, check that the bookmaker accepts that payment system for the free bet offer. A lot of e-wallets don’t trigger bookmakers’ betting offers.

Lastly, look at the number of selections you need to include in your bet slip. Most betting offers say that you have to include a minimum of 3, 4, or 5 legs in your bet slip. That means that a single bet will likely not count towards activating the free bet promo.

Look for Reasonable Wagering Requirements

Wagering is one of the most important free bet terms and conditions. It tells you how many times you have to play with the free bet amount before you can withdraw your winnings. For instance, a £10 free bet promo with a 3x wagering requirement stipulates that you have to spend £30 before withdrawing your free bet winnings.

Therefore, it is crucial that you find betting offers that come with reasonable wagering requirements. But what is reasonable? Well, if you are going for a £10 free bet, 2x is a sound wagering requirement. In contrast, if the £10 free bet playthrough is 10x, you have to seriously consider looking at other offers. If you are playing with a wagering requirement that is that high, you will have to spend £100 to get your £10 free bet winnings. And that’s not right.

A £5/£10 Free Bet is Often the Best One

You might be surprised to find out that the best free bet offers are usually the least attractive-looking ones. For instance, most £10 free bet offers represent more value for money than £50 or £100 bets. But why is this the case?

To understand why less enticing-looking free bets are usually the best options, you have to return to the free bet terms and conditions. £5 and £10 free bets usually have pretty lenient and reasonable terms, meaning they are easy to activate, and you will be able to withdraw your winnings quickly.

In contrast, more lucrative-looking betting offers tend to be riddled with terms and conditions you have to meet. In fact, most of the time, you will have to spend quite a lot of your own money before you can feel the benefits of a very lucrative free bet.

And it’s easy to see why this is the case. Betting sites find it much easier to give away £10 free wagers than £100 ones. A £10 free bet doesn’t hurt the bookmaker’s bottom line. Even if you win money from your free wager, that will be nowhere near the amount a sportsbook will worry about.

However, if a betting site has to give away £100 free bets to multiple customers, and most of those punters win, then the bookmaker will be in trouble.

To prevent that from happening, betting sites create these lucrative £100 free bets more difficult to obtain. They often come with unreasonable wagering requirements and ask for more selections and higher odds. That way, not many punters will win, and the bookmaker won’t put itself in a difficult situation.

Do Your Homework

You should approach free bets the same way you approach regular wagers you place with your own money. The fact the bookmaker gave you some free bet credits should let you place riskier bets, but it should in no way entice you to place meaningless, long-shot wagers.

You want all of the bets you place to be successful. However, that cannot happen if you don’t do your sports betting homework before a wager. Free bets are no different.

Before you place a free bet, make sure to analyze and examine all of your betting choices. For instance, if you are betting on horse racing, look at the jockey riding the horse, who the coach is, and the owner. Also, don’t forget to check the condition of the track and how the horse performs on that surface.

If you are betting on football, on the other hand, analyze the form of both teams. See whether they are performing better in front of their fans or away from home. Don’t forget to check for injuries and suspensions too.

Sports wagering is not a game of chance. You can significantly improve your prospects of winning if you take the time to examine which betting proposition to back. That goes double for free bets. You want to make the most of the free bet stakes the bookmaker gives you, right? Then do your sports betting homework and beat the betting site at its own game.
